Where is Tennent located?
Tennent does not own a campus. Instead, we partner with retreat centers in and around Colorado. For example, we often enjoy the hospitality of Quaker Ridge Camp and Conference Center in Woodland Park, CO, just west of Colorado Springs. (30150 Colorado 67, Woodland Park, CO 80863) The site of your residency may vary, but our priorities in choosing a location for each cohort remain the same: to find a comfortable, beautiful facility that can accommodate families not far off the beaten path, at an affordable price.
How does the calendar work?
We operate according to a rolling calendar. It is our goal to begin one full-time cohort and one half-time cohort every school year, each with a unique start date. The length of term depends upon whether it is a full-time or half-time track, but both tracks include a ramp-up phase before the residency dedicated to reading and preparation, and a wind-down period after the residency for writing and reflection.
When should I apply?
Don’t procrastinate! Keep an eye on the website or our social media pages for announcements about when the next cohort is slated to begin. We accept applications year-round, and will immediately begin the conversation with you about which cohort is the best option for you. Your first term reading will begin three to six months prior to the first in-person residency, and we don’t want you to fall behind.
How much work is involved in full-time seminary?
As implied, the full-time track is a full time Master’s program, culminating with a significant degree. In order to make your workload more manageable, we operate year-round, giving you a longer period of time to complete your work. For full-time students, a term is considered to be six months, with the two-week residency in the middle. M.Litt. and M.Div. students should expect to devote about 20-25 hours per week to their studies, while M.A.T.S. students will spend about 16-20 hours per week. All students can expect flexible breaks sprinkled throughout the year.
How is the half-time (annual) track different?
The residency for half-timers is not every six months, but annual, thus spreading out the cost, travel, and workload over a longer period. M.Litt. and M.Div. students will average about 10-15 hours per week throughout the year, and will end up with the same degree as their full-time counterparts. M.A.T.S. students will only need about 8-10 hours a week for the half-time track.
What will my family be doing during the residency?
Families will enjoy a restful vacation at our retreat center. They will join students for meals, mingling and chatting with other families and professors. They’ll be welcomed at chapel services, cookouts, and fun activities, but we won’t over-schedule them. While there will be plenty of optional events—play dates, date nights, movie nights, outings around town, and on-site activities in the game room or around campus—we won’t require or expect them to join in unless they’d like to. For the most part, evenings and weekends are your own, set aside to spend time with your family.
Is discounted tuition available for my spouse?
We believe that couples have a beautiful opportunity to serve Christ together, and we want to equip you to do that well. Spouses are always welcome to audit classes. Qualified spouses may also apply for the Priscilla and Aquila Scholarship, which provides up to 100% free tuition for one of the two students. Spouses must individually meet admission standards, apply separately, and agree to study concurrently as a couple to be eligible for this award.
What about Hebrew and Greek?
Insofar as possible, Hebrew and Greek helps are integrated into our Old and New Testament classes. In addition, all students will receive language tools training. For students who wish to delve further, we encourage you to consider a concentration in Old or New Testament, selecting the language track instead of the thesis. Students in the language program will earn 12 hours of study in Hebrew or Greek, respectively.
